Welcome to My New Guitar Blog
A guitar is made up of multiple parts. There are seven main parts, the neck, head, body, pick gaurd, cord and jack-plate, control knobs, and pickups.
The neck of a guitar is a long piece of wood that holds the fret-board, the frets, the nut, head and tuners. The fret-board is the board that all the frets and fret markers are laid on. Frets are pieces of skinny metal that run across the fret-board and is used to shorten the length of the strings. The nut of a board is a skinny piece of plastic that holds all the strings in line. Fret markers are little dots on the fret-board that help you figure out where on the fret-board your fingers are.
The head of a board of is a flat piece of wood at the end of the neck that holds the tuners. A tuner is a wingnut that is attached to your string that tunes you strings. The strings on a guitar is the part that actually makes noise.
The body is a large piece of wood at the base of the guitar that ties everything together. This is where the bridge, jack-plate, control knobs, and pickups are located. The bridge a piece of wood that the wires go over to keep tension. The jack-plate of a guitar is the input for the amp to plug into. Control knobs are what control the pitch and loudness of the tune, and the pickups are the end piece that the guitar strings attach to on the end, and is where the sound of the strings are transferred.

Recently our class started to work on our body for the guitars. We used sandpaper to sand down the rigid edge of our bodies so we could router the edges. To start the sanding we used 80 grit sandpaper, which is a rough grit, to get the large gashes out. Then we moved to 100 to get it smoother. Finally I went to 150 grit to smooth it out. The higher the grit means the smoother it will get the piece of wood.
After I sanded the edges down, we used the hand held router to round the edges. We had to round the edges so there wouldn’t be a sharp edge that would cut you. The router uses a bit that spins, on the bit there are two sharp blades that cut down the wood. The finished project after the router is a round smooth edge.
